Do you have an old garden hose that is covered in dirt and spider webs? This has happened to me, and after a long winter you might be scared to use your garden hose, and many people opt to buy a new one.In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to save your old rubber garden hose and make it look like new again.

Cleaning the new expandable garden hoses are still a bit of a mystery to me. Since they only expand when there is a lot of water in them. When mine gets dirty enough I’ll make a guide on how I cleaned it.Some old garden hoses are not made of rubber and therefore can be difficult if not impossible to clean. Mildew and dirt can pile up on the hose after years of wear and tear.

Sometimes your garden hose might get so dirty in facts that you don’t feel comfortable putting it in the garden or filling up a pool.

Soak it with Bleach

One of the best ways to clean your garden hose is to use bleach. There are many different kinds of bleach so try to get the most natural, as your garden hose will be sitting in your get or at least on your lawn, and you don’t want the hose to be exposing toxic chemicals to your lawn.

One easy way to soak your garden hose in bleach is to use a small kitty pool or a large bucket. You want to immerse the entire garden hose in bleach for over 24 hours to remove everything that’s been on it.

If your garden hose is over 50 feet long, then you will trouble to find a proper container that it will fit in.

Scrub it with a good brush

Flexible Double Ended Long BrushAfter letting it soak in the tub for a few hours, you can go over it with a brush with more bleach and start to scrub off the first layer of dirt and mildew.

After that throw it back into the tub for a few more hours and repeat the process. The color should stay the same, if not you got the original color of the garden hose.

The last thing you’re going to want to do is clean the inside of the garden hose. In the video, you can see the man use a pipe cleaner to clean it out. Doing this can be a challenging and many people may just opt to run bleach through the whole thing to clean it.

You can use a long brush such as the one pictured here to jam into your hose. Simply put a bleach soaked pad onto the end and use the long pipe cleaner to clean out any dirt inside.

This can be a difficult process and may require a longer brush. Simply get one that is the length of your hose and you will be fine.
